One time I was watching a tape of "Welcome to My Studio", Helen Van Wyk's longtime PBS series, and she was discussing the uses of various red oil colors. So she whipped out her brush and batted out a quick study of a pile of books. I have a house full of books and it had never occurred to me to make them subject matter, rather than incidental "window dressing".

So here, accompanying some Day Lilies from our yard, are some books, which have become one of my favorite subjects because they are always a challenge to paint.
