I began this painting as a demonstration for the artists and patrons of a beautiful little gallery in Mariposa, California near where I live. It was a beautiful day, spent with wonderful people, and I was really in a mood to paint the nearby scenery. I worked from a photo taken near Raymond, California known for its granite quarries that built the buildings of the "new" San Francisco after the 1906 quake.
This barn is on a back road, meandering through a little valley full of cows, streams, Digger Pine trees, and lots of California Poppies which I added after I got back to my studio.
